Herkamite Diamonds

are very rare. And I have one on my shoulder. LOL. Denise and Daryl have a couple in the shop and I am meditating with one. It has the most loving and purest vibe I have ever felt. The intensity is balanced by the warmth. I am wearing Moldavite and this energy is surrounding me. My soul needed this drenching in purity.

I am sooo excited!!

I can't wait to kick off the fundraiser next week! My coworker said he would help me pass out flyers woohoo!! I gotta design them and print them first. Thank GOD today is payday!! Anyway, I am designing the fundraiser page and you all will get to see it probably around Wednesday or Thursday.

My mother, aka Mamma Kitty, crocheted this beautiful hat and scarf set that she is donating to the incentives and she posed in it. I will probably let her on to update her photo later on ;)

Good morning everyone

I woke up with this raging headache..ugh not good. I think today is going to be a migraine day since I haven't had any in the past month.

I am just getting Mom ready for this hospital trip and then I have another trip this afternoon:

Nonprofits checklist free meeting at the library :D

I can't wait to go to that one.

Now, if only I can get rid of the nausea and headache..and I am hungry. How weird. Hungry and nauseated at the same time.

Dame Johnna Ellen Crider

Johnna Crider was born in Cartersville, GA to Johnnie Crider and John W. McCrary, Jr. Johnna had a rough beginning due to the facts that her father wanted nothing to do with her and her mother wasn't on good terms with her line of the family. Because of this, Johnna and her mother were often homeless during Johnna's childhood. They would live in her mother's beat up old car or abandoned houses with nothing but water. Johnna escaped her cruel reality by writing--poetry and short stories.

Her mother moved to Shreveport, LA in 1992 where they lived in a homeless shelter called The Providence House when she was 10, 11, 12. When her mother finally got on her feet, Johnna was middle school where she did not fit in. Johnna learned the hard way that the only person who could love her and care for her was herself.

By 2002, her mother was ailing in health and Johnna was struggling to take care of her and finish school. Johnna finished school 2 years later than her planned date of 2001 due to health issues and her mother's health crisis. Johnna landed a job at Hollywood Casino just before her senior year and graduated in 2003. Johnna was into writing and fascinated with calligraphy which developed into painting in 2004--the very same day her mother almost died of appendicitis.

In 2004, Johnna moved into her own place, and tried to take care of her mother who was again facing homelessness. In early late 2004--early 2005 Johnna's art career begin to kick off. She was in a few art shows including the YWCA Women of the Arts and the Northwest Louisiana Art Gallery's 2nd exhibition which featured her coffee table that she built and painted. In 2005, six months before the hurricanes struck, her mother moved to Atlanta to try again in a new shelter. She didn't want her daughter to see her on the streets.

Just after Hurricane Rita, Johnna was evicted from her apartment, just months after renewing her lease. This happened after Kevin Costner's movie crew for the movie, The Guardian rented space from her landlord. Before moving out, Johnna had the chance to donate her work to the Katrina fund for Musicians. Each sale would help a musician get a new instrument.Johnna then proceeded to Dubach, LA where she stayed with friends and then on to Atlanta, where she signed up for Job Corps. While she waited to be accepted, she resided in the Calvary Refuge Center in Jonesboro, GA. This is when she realized her destiny: Using her art to help the homeless. Johnna was accepted into the Brunswick Job Corps Center and was there just a week before Christmas. She completed a door mural, Nalame in January, 2006, and became a leader as an artist. She also created the original Colors of Ink, used to raise money for the homeless--but that site went down and no money was made.

Johnna signed up for the Transportation Communications Union which is an advanced training course provided through Job Corps and the wait was approximately six months. Johnna made good use of her time. She was a recipient of the Center Director's Award, which is the highest award that Brunswick Job Corps provided, given mostly to Student Government Association participants; and was on the front page of the local, The Brunswick News which featured her picture and her artwork and interviews with Johnna, her Center Director, and her Business Office Technology Instructor. She also developed skills online with html and learned how to create websites and digital art. When Johnna finally got back to Atlanta, she quickly made progress in her classes at TCU, and made friends within the Little 5 Points community, where she started selling art and giving sales to shelters like Calvary Refuge and Atlanta Children's Shelter. The local publication, Ponce Press discovered her and she was featured in the June 2007 edition. Also, in that June, Johnna met and chatted with singer celebrity Andre 3000, who now owns a piece of her art and is on her clientele list.

Johnna has held a part time job with Cox's Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Finance Department for the City of Atlanta. She has also been in two art shows with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that benefited United Way of Atlanta and The Empty Stocking Fund. Johnna also participated in AB2: Art Beat 2 that was held in Downtown Atlanta at Nico's Cafe.

She has recently been accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring with a Masters in Arts Administration, but due to lack of funds, she cannot go to college.

Johnna is currently working for Nancy's Pizza in Midtown as a phone specialist and taking care of her mother who is now disabled. They lived on the streets for a little while until her new employer helped them. That same week, her mother's disability check came in and now Johnna is putting all of her spare time into Art4TheHomeless.

Hi hun...and thank you for that clarification. It's sad to say I wanted to donate to that e-book, a couple of my poems but I lost them. I copied all my word files to disk, and when I tried a second time it said I was duplicating the files. Well, as it turned out it did not record on the data disk at all, or at least it won't recognize it. I can see that the CD has been written, but when attempting to open it, it shows no files. Fortunately I had sense enough to put my two PDFs of my books onto my jump drives, but my other word files are just gone. I had to reformat my hard drive, and lost everything...even the stuff for my web site. Now I must start all over again. That's why when people try to go there, it's just 'not' there anymore as I had to cancel the account. A month of very hard work and long tedious hours for naught.

I'll begin again after the first of the year. It's senseless to try and put anything together now. But if I find one of the ning sites that has that one poem I wrote about abuse, you can use that for maybe another e-book you may put together.

Much luck and if you need a hand, let me know.

Blessings, Lea

My only real reason for writing to you was to place constructive placement before you. Example: 'one can't fill a cart with non essential goods and ask the cart to go forward if it has no wheels'. Before you start an operation as Lea Anna has pointed out, you must have a real concern, with state license created, signed, sealed, and delivered.
As well in order to fund-raise, you must make sure with that licensed, you may create an even balance of understanding so that people's trustfully can be afforded - not be ill afforded. You also must pull together all who wish to donate said prizes, to make sure they are there before offering to the public, a contest, or walk-a-thon, or whatever scheme it may be, so with that full balance, you may justly state: your organisation is holding a contest, fund-raiser, walk-a-thon, etc. Then you must show forth-with a public report of full understanding of all funds raised so the public may as well the constituencies individually as well collectively, may view the full results of that fund raising. Once you have all this, offering the prizes, etc. will show and offer competent reporting in every understanding. Sadly, you have not fully done this, or may I stand corrected? I am not one to criticize, but only to show you the very importance of being 'founder' of a non-profit as well, to show your fullness of intent and the actions coming from those well laid out plan. If you do not do this, or have a full business plan prior to being a non-profit, it only short and long-term offers a mixed bag of in cohesiveness, etc.
So, please, for your next 'fundraiser' does make sure you have all things in place before you continue. Offering any other excuse, or to that of past disabling issues is not of interest to most wishing to offer support or even to offer funding. Everyone needs to know at the start, you have all things in place, before venturing to offer supportive value in any vein. I am sorry for an organisation without a license does not assist anyone, nor does it help to add salve to those under the impression that everything is in an organized structured environment. Also posting your personal aggravated sense of affronts will not assist you either. This is a private matter, not to be opened to public concern. If anything a private matter between two persons, in which you may offer this to a legal avenue if you need, but never post things as such, or that you have lack of money, or that it is payday. This is anything but professional...
As you know, you are addressing issues that are profound and real. Your having lived that existence and wanting to engage in making a purposeful outreach in which these homeless lives benefit should be done with fluidness as well CARE. Please think through the very process in which you formulate your content of ideas as well your communication and your want to help. Doing anything less of realness that would incapacitate your realities will of course curtail any real offering to assist others. I truly wish ou the best.
Thanks for allowing me to express my thoughts and ideas so that it may enhance your being and work short or long term. God Bless.

Hi kiddo...well I've listened to the interview, however I was not impressed. It sounded more like a rant than telling everyone that you're doing it wrong. Instead of that, it would have been more constructive if she'd said 'why' she felt you stole this idea from her, when she came up with it, and why she didn't apply for the non-profit status.

I will admit you are a bit disorganized, but then every new organization needs new ideas to get off the ground. It is true that homeless people have no use for any 'art' in their current situation. I was under the impression that you were organizing 'art sales' and donating the funds to help the homeless with food, clothing and shelter. Although I do admit that I have not been in here very much and I lose track of what's actually going on.

This is not the first times I've heard about friends suddenly becoming enemies, and sending out e-mails to all members. Had this not happened, I would not have known anything about the other issues on various ning sites, such as the American Business Club and a fraud case.

This is truly what people do not want to hear about, and with all parties concerned, it would be better to keep these things private. The e-mails would be necessary to ask other members if they have any experience and could give input, instead of defaming others. Good intentions remain that until creditabiltiy is established.

Among all things I will admit your intentions are honorable but as many of us in the beginning stages of any good will gestures, must have ample resources of record keeping, and be established with government as a non-profit before creating a site. Having a 'plan' as far as what would be done with the art, and not just 'giving art away' to homeless people. It would not do them any good, when they don't have a home. Art cannot feed a family of 4 or more people.
That's why it is only fair to say that advance planning for sale of this donated art at a specific place is of utmost importance.

I also have to agree with Tatiana, and she would have the best information to give.

With all things considered, however, I do not feel it's fair to donate to an organization and then take it back. But when you do not recognize the value of what you've been given, and the person does not receive the recognation due to them, that is a bad situation. So my emotions are a bit tipped on this one.
At 10:24am on November 17, 2009, Tatiana A. Kostanian said…
I want to be very fair in my comments as a person with compounded disabilities, on life-support (dialysis), founder of a non-profit, a person who over 30 years has been immersed in the work of assisting lives (all ages) with disabilities, homelessness, housing, etc, a Commission Member in my own city for the elderly and the disabled.

We all go through difficulties in our lives, some more than others. It is however of most importance when we offer the public at large and those specifically invited in to assist us in our work, that they will be accorded whatever has been offered across the board every follow through, not just honest intentions, but real accord. Ones word is paramount in that of cementing good feelings and in gaining all supportive measures possible. You asked for funds for your organisation and for direct donations from many through the global Internet. Peoples responded. You offered specific honorable mentions as well prizes of music cd’s, etc.

Strong reminder: Whenever you ask for public support, funding, or offer prizes, etc. please make sure you accord all that which you promise as well put forth in honorable mention of names, etc. When you do not follow through, you may gain lesser of peoples who gave initially from their hearts to donate for your future needs. Your public is the most important part of that partnership. Please do not offer any human heart something you will not follow through on! Make a plan and promises that you can and will offer everyone without excuses or any reservation. It is not the issue if you will about receivership of the gain of 'any kind of prize' , it is the issue again of what your full intent is and of your completeness of follow through. People can be known, unknown, whomever, it is of importance to treat all equally as well in a professional manner. Words are one thing but intent and action is for the public, everything. I dearly hope Johnna you receive this in the manner of which it is offered. Transparency in this field is everything!
